Reflection on Old Ahmed's presentation

Date: Wednesday 16th May 2012

Venue: W007

Time: 11:15

Topic: Air pollution

First of all, Ahmed introduced the topic which was air pollution. He showed a picture in the first slide, and answered all the questions he received about it.

Ahmed kept showing some pictures. One of them was showing the world map with the amount of pollution in each country.

After that, Ahmed told us about the causes of this problem. He divided those causes into two groups, outdoor and indoor causes.

Finally, some good solutions were given by Ahmed. Some of these solutions were very useful and effective, while others were hard to achieve. He said that more effort must be spent to make people aware.

The presentation was nice and informative. The slides were colorful. Ahmed used his body language and eye contact confidently.

* New things which I learnt:

1- Personal care products could cause air pollution.
2- The UAE is the worst country for pollution per capita after Qatar.
3- Air pollution is a serious problem which could damage our world in the future if we don't try to contain it.

Reflection 5

Meeting Activity Reflection

The meeting was really interesting, and I liked being in it so much. I think that I did well. I played the chair role nicely. I moved the conversation from one point to another smoothly. I gave my opinion and gave some suggestions a couple of times. Rashid and Salem also did their best and prepared themselves fully for the meeting, so we got a good result.
Mr.Hedley added a unique flavor to the meeting. Although his questions were slightly difficult, I enjoyed my time listening to his question, comments and opinions.

Meeting Activity

Problem: student success

Date of meeting: 14th March 2012
Time of meeting: 11:25
Venue: W007
Group members:
Chair: Abdulrahman
Minute taker: Salem
Participant: Rashid

Venue preparation:
Grouping of chairs round tables

Agenda:
Time management
Focus on study
Motivation
Friendship
Suitable major

The chairman Abdulrahman opened the meeting at 11:25

* Time management.

Salem thought that organizing a time table would be useful for students. Rashid supported Salem in his opinion, and he suggested that students should arrange their activities to be at weekends. Abdulrahman said that students do have enough time to study, but the problem is that they use it doing other stuff.
From here we moved to item 2.

* Focus on study.

Rashid said that some students are working in addition to their study. Those students have the right to get enough time to study by getting study leave. Abdulrahman agreed. Salem pointed out that homework is very important for students to be successful; it prepares them for exams.

* Motivation.

Rashid said that dreams are good motivators. Students always try to achieve their childhood dreams. Salem admitted that students who get a high GPA must be given a scholarship (money, and job). That will push them to study more. Abdulrahman wondered if having a scholarship would affect students negatively.
From his own experience, Rashid said that he sometimes feels nervous but he always does the best he can so he doesn’t lose his scholarship.

* Friendship.
Salem said that friends affect students results largely. Good friends will help the student in his homework, share their information with him, and teach him if he didn't understand. On the other hand, Rashid spoke about bad friends. He said that students will not get any benefit from being with them. Abdulrahman proposed the idea of mixing good students with bad ones to exchange their knowledge. Both Salem and Rashid supported the idea.

* Suitable major.

Abdulrahman thought that choosing the best major is very important to be successful. Students must choose a major that they like, not the one that they are good in. Rashid added that their choice must not be affected by their parents or anyone else. Salem agreed.

In conclusion we thought that:

1. Being a successful student isn’t so easy. It needs a lot of sacrifice.
2. The motivation, and time management are the most important things to be successful.
3. We liked the idea of giving good students scholarships.
